For many reasons, Jeep is one of the most well-known and beloved car brands in the U.S. So, while Jeeps may have some issues, that won’t stop folks from buying and enjoying their Jeep. That’s exactly the case for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler, which was recently ranked as being one of the worst best SUVs on the market.
The 2021 Jeep Wrangler is a satisfying SUV to own
Shopping for a brand-new car can be a complicated task, and there are many things that shoppers will look for. Some care only about the looks, others care about the MPG, and almost everyone else is looking at the price tag. However, another important aspect is owner satisfaction, as it can tell a different story than something like a car’s rating can.
That’s why it’s unsurprising that, according to Consumer Reports, the 2021 Wrangler is one of the most satisfying two-row SUVs to own. Overall, Consumer Reports said that the Wrangler has an owner satisfaction rating of 4.0 out of 5.0, and that’s despite how poorly it does in almost every other category.
Consumer Reports gave the Wrangler a pretty bad reliability score of just 2.0 out of 5.0. On top of that, the Wrangler also didn’t perform very well on the road, as Consumer Reports gave it a 36 out of 100 for its road test. Overall, the Wrangler had a score of just 29 out of 100, which actually made it the worst SUV in its segment, according to Consumer Reports. But of course, none of those scores stopped Wrangler owners from loving their car.
Jeep fans love this legendary SUV
As its name implies, Consumer Reports’ owner satisfaction score is based on the owner’s opinion of their car, and nothing much more. Consumer Reports surveys car owners and asks them if they will buy their car again, and that’s how Consumer Reports gets an estimate on how satisfied owners are with their car.
And of course, Jeep fans are almost always going to be satisfied with their purchase. That may be why the Jeep Wrangler ultimately has a great owner satisfaction score despite doing so poorly in every other category.
To be fair to the Wrangler, it’s not just blind devotion, either. Jeep fans love Jeeps because when they buy a Jeep, they know exactly what they’re going to get. Jeeps are great for off-roading, and they certainly have a distinctive and unique look that Jeep fans love. Those two reasons are good enough for many people. That being said, the Wrangler, despite its scores, has some worthy offerings as well.
What’s so good about the 2021 Jeep Wrangler
The Wrangler, just like Jeep fans expected, does indeed off-road really well. The Jeep Wrangler comes with four-wheel drive as standard, and while some trims of the Wrangler will off-road better than others, they’re all pretty good at it. This is largely because of how the Wrangler was designed, as its suspension is great for off-roading, and it also has more than enough ground clearance to handle almost any obstacle.
The other good thing about the Wrangler, according to Consumer Reports, is its V6 engine. The standard Wrangler comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque, and of course, there are a handful of other engine options available, too. Regardless, the standard V6 delivered, according to Consumer Reports, a “smooth, refined speed buildup” among other things.
That being said, that V6 isn’t exactly a fuel-efficient engine as Consumer Reports said that it gets about 18 MPG combined. But obviously, that isn’t exactly a sticking point for most Wrangler fans and owners.
