The Boat Tail is the newest luxury car build by Rolls-Royce. The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail was rumored to belong to Jay-Z and Beyoncé, which would make sense given the extravagance of the sedan. What makes the newest Rolls-Royce so unique? Just about every piece of the luxury sedan was hand-built and custom.
So, how much does the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail cost?
The luxury brand hand-built the new Rolls-Royce Boat Tail along with Coachbuild, a division of Rolls-Royce Bespoke. Bespoke allows some of the more prestigious customers to custom-build a car. The price is rumored to be $28 million, which makes sense with all of the work that went into it. The company won’t confirm the number due to the private nature of the build.
The Boat Tail design is reminiscent of J-class yachts and the 1932 version of the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. The Caleidolegno wood and soft blue lacquer are perfectly symmetrical. Rolls-Royce said the “oceanic blue infused with shimmering crystals” was the customer’s favorite color. It has long been rumored that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are those customers, but the power couple has not confirmed that.
Over the week, the Boat Tail made its grand debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Northern Italy. This luxury sedan launched four years after the first Coachbuilt Rolls-Royce launched at the same event. The Rolls-Royce Sweptail debuted back in 2017.
What is special about the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail?
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said that the brand was excited to share the vehicle in person. Rolls-Royce hand-built the one-of-a-kind vehicle and has been at work on it behind the scenes since the Sweptail debuted in 2017.
“It is a truly historic moment for the marque. We are leading a modern coachbuilding movement that takes the wider luxury industry into an entirely different space, where hyper-personalisation and contemporary patronage provide essentially limitless possibilities.”Torsten Müller-Ötvös | Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
The back of the Boat Tail is one of the main features. A button opens the back deck in a butterfly motion that reveals “an intricate hosting suite replete with a whimsical parasol.” Rolls-Royce says that the cantilever movement is reminiscent of designs by Santiago Calatrava. Not only that, but the back opens to reveal Armand de Brignac vintage cuvée, caviar, and blinis for a luxury snack. Don’t worry. The Brignac vintage cuvée is kept at six degrees in the custom-built refrigerator, which is the preferred temperature.
Hopefully, this won’t be the last of this design
Upon looking at the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, it looks like one single piece. The body panels appear uninterrupted by lines or doors. Bovet 1822 worked in partnership with the brand to create two timepieces. Buyers can wear the timepiece or display it on the dashboard.
The public can expect some more exciting things from Rolls-Royce and Coachbuild in the future. However, since this build took a solid four years to bring to life, it might be a slow rollout. For now, the public can marvel at the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event.
Rolls-Royce called the debut of the Boat Tail a “pivotal moment” for the brand and the luxury goods sector. Keep an eye on the brand’s social media for more announcements related to the luxury sedan.
