Buying a new car isn’t in everybody’s budget, especially during these tough financial times. And buying a used car isn’t always a bad thing. They’re cheaper than new vehicles, and many models are built to last a long time. So buying a car that’s a few years old could be a good value for the price. A pre-owned Hyundai Tucson is one example.
The 2016 model, in particular, is worth considering. Though it’s not the latest from Hyundai, it could make a good purchase in 2021.
The technology in the 2016 Hyundai Tucson
U.S. News recently named the 2016 Hyundai Tucson one of the 15 best used cars that a first-time buyer can purchase this year. One reason is the technology in that model year is still useful now. It comes with a number of standard features that make the Tucson a great buy for people who want a good entertainment system and other tech features while they’re driving.
It includes an easy-to-use five-inch touchscreen. And expect satellite radio and iPod and Bluetooth connectivity to listen to music from your own devices. A USB port allows you to charge your mobile devices on the go, and the steering wheel has controls for the sound system.
The 2016 Tucson also has a rearview camera among its safety features. And its remote keyless entry is beneficial if you want to start your car without having to go outside in inclement weather.
The 2016 Hyundai Tucson’s awards and accolades
When it was new, the 2016 Hyundai Tucson received a number of awards and accolades from critics, U.S. News reports. One of its top honors was being named U.S. News‘ Best Compact SUV for the Money in 2016, as well as being a finalist for the publication’s Best Compact SUV for Families award that year.
Excellent scores for its predicted reliability, safety, and total cost of ownership were among the deciding factors. Overall, U.S. News gave the 2016 Hyundai Tucson an overall score of 9 out of 10.
The Tucson that year also impressed J.D. Power, giving the crossover a perfect 5-out-of-5 reliability rating, besting many other SUVs in that segment.
The Tucson is even getting more awards as a used model. In 2019, U.S. News gave the 2016 model its award as the Best Used Car for Teens.
The 2016 Tucson overview
The technology isn’t the only reason why you should consider the 2016 Hyundai Tucson. Overall, it’s a good value, costing an average of $15,857 to $21,814, depending on its condition and features.
The 2016 model was the first year of a full redesign, including a roomier interior that seats five and offers more cargo space. The new Tucson boasts 30.1 cubic feet that expands to 61.9 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded; the 2015 model offered only 25.7/55.8 cubic feet. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof and dual-zone automatic climate control.
The 2016 Tucson also boasts better fuel economy than its predecessor. It gets 21 to 26 mpg in the city and 26 to 33 mpg on the highway. According to U.S. News, its “hearty turbocharged engine” produces 164 to 175 hp. You can get it with a four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
Citing the Tucson’s superior performance, U.S. News ranks it above even the Honda CR-V and Chevy Equinox. With all that under consideration, the 2016 Hyundai Tucson is a great used vehicle even five years later.
